Llewellyn & Sandra’s Kimberley Wedding

By WeddingNo Comments

Kimberley Wedding.

Llewellyn & Sandra had a beautiful and unique Kimberley Wedding reception. Read their story below:

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

We actually met at Scarlet Room, a small intimate lounge bar in Bloemfontein. It was complete serendipity as he was out with a friend for a quick after gig drink and I was out with friends from work. As fate would have it they knew each other❤️
From the get go we were just strangely comfortable with each other, it felt as though we have known each other our whole lives.

Was your wedding affected by Covid-19 and how?

Luckily for us Covid didn’t have an effect on our special day as we wanted a small intimate wedding, and our venue only allowed for a small group of guest.

Who did your hair & make-up and how did you find them?

My hair was done by Ilze van der Walt at Verfraai salon and my make up was done by Micayla.
I was extremely happy with both my hair and makeup, it was perfectly done, Definitely ticked my Pinterest boxes and I felt like a absolute princess!

What made you choose your Kimberley Wedding Venue?

So our friend Wilhelmina had a agreement from forever that she would be the chef for his wedding. Sooo when she moved to Kimberley, the only option was to have a “destination” Kimberley wedding.😉

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

Bride: For me it was definitely seeing my now -husband once I got to the end of the church aisle, he looked so handsome and his smile said everything.

Groom: Definitely the butterfly feeling meeting each other in the church, Landi our Wedding Photographer caught the moment on film and the fact that there were no doubt about the person I am about to spend my life with.

Tell us something funny/unique about your wedding weekend.

Something funny for me was that we were both so “kinderlik opgewonde” that during the church service we were giggling and I just could not stop smiling from ear to ear.

How did you experience your Photographer’s service?

Our Wedding Photographer, Landi from Organictales has a very comfortable feel about her, which meant we were immediately comfortable. She guides you regarding poses and that helps allot especially if you are not a “photo-shoot” couple. Because my husband and I like a little bit of a more silly side , she really captured us as a couple.

If you could change anything from the day, what would it be?

Literally nothing, even though it was a chilly-ish day and was raining like crazy at the end of the night, our day was absolutely perfect. It was everything we wanted and more.

Kimberley wedding

Where did you go on honeymoon and what made it special?

My husband is a adventure photographer ,so on the Sunday we left to shoot Freedom Circuit at Underberg. It was a privilege to be able to spend a week together in a car😬 Later this year we will go on a official Honeymoon.

What advice would you give other couples still in the planning process?

Do what you want to do! It is your wedding. We didn’t ask for allot advice as we wanted our day to reflect us, also we had amazing friends that became our vendors. We also didn’t have allot of input on the food or the decor as we completely trusted our vendors and we were extremely happy with the result. They captured the exact idea we wanted and everyone had a amazing time at our wedding! A Definite perfect day to remember.

Onder die Akker Wedding

Wikus & Berné – Onder die Akker Wedding

By WeddingNo Comments

Onder die Akker Wedding

This Onder die Akker Wedding was another small and intimate event in the beautiful Free State.

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

Our story includes blue eyes, a beard and a pipe.  My nose caught a cherry smell and it led me to this bearded life of the party.  My first words to him were: “Can I please have a drag from your pipe?”.  And between the fires, laughter and cherry tobacco, little did we know we will have such a beautiful life together.

How did you experience your Photographer’s service?

Landi lit up our day with her way of making one feel comfortable in front of the lens.  She has a distinctive vision and style, which she sticks to, that is what I like about her.  She makes it look easy to handle a camera in one hand and another on her hip… and a, well, a busy group of groomsmen.  She is a great communicator, and if there is communication, little can go wrong.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

Just when we entered the ceremony hall and got to sit down, I found myself looking around at this joyous event.  We will never ever have that moment again, that moment where we could have all our loved ones with us.  I sat there and absorbed that moment so well, because that was my biggest wish for our wedding, just to have everyone there who is truly closest to our hearts.

Tell us something funny/unique about your wedding weekend.

This happened just after my hair and make up were done, and the dress was finally on.  We were outside between the beautiful autumn trees just about to start taking pictures.  Suddenly I felt a heavy burn sensation on my calve,  A bee stung me, a bee stungggg me on my wedding day!!  I am semi-allergic to bees, and was on the edge to freak out.  It wasn’t 5 seconds, and Landi had her first-aid kit out, my bridesmaid, Charnè feed me with antihistamine and champagne.  And 2 minutes after that, everyone forgot it even happened.

Where did you go on your honeymoon and what made it special?

We had a 3-day trip to our end destination.  We overnighted at Bloodriver – where Wikus was in his happy place, being a history-freak.  We were spoiled with the best vetkoek and boerbier we have ever had.  We then headed further to Kosi-bay.  Spontaneously chose a lodge to sleep that evening.  We again met the loveliest people and then we found ourselves on tractor tubes in the swimming pool that surrounded the bar – island bar.  Early the next morning, we had about a 40 minutes drive to the border to Mozambique, left.  We were quite anxious, as we had to test on the border for Covid.  Luckily we were negative and we could enjoy 7 days in Mozambique.  Our home was literally on the beach, with the dolphins greeting us as the sun rose every morning.  It was snorkelling, bar hopping, seafood platters, golf hole in one’s and road trips for days.  We shared it with our closest friends.    It’s our happy place – the people and their primitive way of living.  We enjoyed every minute of it.

Landtscap Wedding – Rése & James

By WeddingNo Comments

Landtscap Wedding.

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

When a mutual friend of ours showed James photos of his girlfriend (now wife) with friends, James immediately asked out about the one friend – Rése! His now wife, being the good friend that she is, then immediately sent Rése a picture of James and said you need to meet this guy – only problem he stays in Port Elizabeth. But our friends decided we need to meet and all of a sudden we were added to a whatsapp group called “That Awkward Moment” and our friend left the group right after. We chatted for a month before we actually met for the first time – and the rest is history.

What drew me to James was his infectious laugh, his kind demeanor, patience and that he is taller than me. James being handsome does not hurt either!

What drew me to Rése was her beauty, similar interests and ideals. The clincher was that she is an avid sport watcher! No guilty feelings to watch sports all day!

Was your wedding affected by Covid-19 and how?

We got engaged on the 27th of September 2019 and set our initial wedding date for the 22nd of August 2020. When the level 5 lockdown was implemented and not knowing how long it will take for restrictions to be eased we decided to rather move our date to 22 May 2021. With us both being in separate provinces we did not see each other for 6 month due to level 5 and level 4 lockdown restrictions (Rése was in Stellenbosch and James in Johannesburg). We have always done long distance, but those 6 months really tested us and I think made us realise even more that we want to be together forever. One thing that the postponing of the wedding took away from us was the opportunity to have our grandmothers witness our special day. They would have loved to celebrate the day with us.

What made you choose your venue?

We want a venue that was close to Stellenbosch, and spectacular views for the winelands and caters for all weather conditions – seeing as we wanted a winter wedding. Landtscap ticked all those boxes! With lots accommodation in the surrounding area, a 180 degree view that includes Simonsberg and Stellenbosch mountains, a fireplace to keep our guests warm until late at night – what more could we ask for!

Tammy and her team helped make sure that our dream wedding could become a reality! All our guests were in awe about the amazing view and food provided by Two Chefs Catering.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

James memorable moment – Seeing Rése walk out of the building. She took my breathe away and that image will be ingrained in my memories forever!

Rése memorable moment – Seeing James stand there in his suit looking super handsome. Another memorable moment was that at James’ request we had to walk into the reception area on a song choice he made – and that song would be Meisie Meisie by Kurt Darren. It was hilarious and the guests did not expect it at all and loved it!

How did you experience your photographer’s service?

I have known Landi since 2008 when we met each other in Monica Ladies’ Residence at Stellenbosch University – and when she started doing wedding photography professionally I told her she will be my photographer one day. Not even an hour after we got engaged I told Landi to keep her weekends open in August 2020. Throughout the whole Covid-19 date change and timelines having to get adjusted to comply to lockdown regulations – Landi always stayed positive and helped to make the logistics of the event run smoothly. Throughout the day Landi made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and we had lots of laughs during the couples shoot. If you naturally look happy in the photos it shows in the photos and Landi brings that out in all the people she photographs.

Where did you go on honeymoon and what made it special?

We had an action packed 2 week long local honeymoon. We first went to Thronybush Game Lodge (https://www.thornybush.com/lodge/thornybush-game-lodge/) for 4 nights. With international tourists not being able to come to South Africa we got an amazing deal, where it was all inclusive (except for drinks) and we went on 2 game drives each day. We had amazing sightings of the Big Five and rare animals – like wild dogs on the hunt and lion cubs playing in the river bed.

After that we road tripped down to Umhlanga and stayed there for 2 nights in a lovely AirBnB overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed the warmer weather and James even had a swim or two!

After that we spent 4 nights at Bushman’s Nek Berg and Trout Resort. We went hiking, Rése had her first fresh snow falling experience and had to build a snowman – and we tried to go up Sani Pass by making use of Sani Pass Private Tours (https://sanipassprivatetours.com/sani-pass-tours-private/). Greg our guide was so knowledgeable and tried his best to get to the top but no cars could make it up to the Lesotho border due to the heavy snow fall.

We did a lot of driving and it felt like we needed a holiday after the honeymoon – but travelling local just reminded us of all the beauty we have in South Africa and that we have so much exploring left to do!

Karoo Gariep Wedding.

A Beautiful love chapter in the wide landscapes of the Karoo. Situated between Colesberg and Hanover, the New Holmes Karoo Gariep wedding took place where sunsets come together and open skies wave at you.

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

We met 2010 in Bloemfontein while studying at Olive Chef School afterwards we worked together on cruise ships after 9 years of friendship Michael finally decided that it is time to change the “friendship status”

How did you experience the services of your Photographer?

Landi was excellent and made us feel so comfortable.
All of our guests can’t stop talking about the beautiful photos. We really enjoyed Landi’s company it really felt like She was part of the family and friends who we wanted to share our special day with.

What was the most memorable moment of the day?

The moment we saw everything come together as planned since we basically arranged the whole wedding by ourselves except for the food, thank goodness!

Tell us something funny from the day?

As I came down the aisle, I felt a tuck on my head and realized my veil just got stuck on a rose bush! I first had to take a moment, unstuck it and then continue down the aisle to Michael! Haha!

Kalkoonde Wedding

Montpellier Wedding

Marcus & Ilezé

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?
How did we meet? Well this is actually one of our very interesting “braaivleis vuur” stories. My twin sister’s boyfriend back then (now husband),Wouter invited us to the cricket club so he can introduce me to one of his friends. They’ve known each other since primary school.  My overprotective sister then decided to quickly do a background check before agreeing to the “blind date”. After viewing Marcus’s facebook profile she agreed. As we made our way to the cricket club ,Wouter called to cancel since Marcus is not in the mood for girls anymore….Well , here we are today and he is still stuck with that girl he wasn’t in the mood for.
What drew me to Marcus? Well I have to be honest…It was definitely his looks. And also the way I felt around him…I was just able to be myself around him completely! No mask , no pretend , no walls…JUST MYSELF.
What drew Marcus to me? His response was that he was instantly drew to me because of my bubbly & soft nature. And then my looks! Just listen to how sincere and perfect this man is! I’M DEFINITELY THE LUCKIEST WIFE!

Was your wedding affected by Covid-19 and how?
Yes, our wedding were affected by covid in all ways possible.
We got engaged in December 2018 , and of course the planning took off effective immediately.
We set our date for 2 May 2020 . I remember the day the 1st Covid case was announced in South-Africa…I wasn’t nervous because nothing ever lasts long in SA right? And then…the hard lockdown were announced weeks before our wedding day. We had to postpone for the 1st time. We then rescheduled for 5 September 2020…long story short…we rescheduled again.
As soon as Covid-19 finally got some direction and the restrictions were lifted, we decided to set our new date , 13 Feb 2021. Everything looked promising…but then the December restrictions happened…We were so discouraged…most of the excitement already faded due to all the postponements….we just wanted to get this wedding over with…All these emotions felt sooo wrong because that’s the opposite of what you should feel planning your wedding. We were just so sick of all the disappointment. But then my amazing husband told me that we shouldn’t postpone and just wait…We would eventually see this thing through , come what may. Luckily we didn’t postpone because 1 Week before the wedding the restrictions were eased a bit and everything was able to continue according to plan. We did however decide to do 2 receptions in order to minimize the indoor gathering time. But it was wonderful because we got to have a classy and elegant indoor celebration together with a fun , fairytale outdoor celebration. So we got the best of both worlds!
After all the tears , disappointment and a very long journey we had the best night of our lives and we are finally happily married!

What made you choose Montpellier?
I honestly can’t remember how, from all the thousands of wineland wedding venues, we got to Montpellier. Montpellier was our 3rd viewing and as soon as we saw the little chapel in the winelands we immediately knew…THIS WAS IT! We then went on to have a look at the wine cellar (for the reception) and this was just another confirmation that this was our wedding venue! Everything about this wine farm is just sooo magical. Around every corner there awaits a WOW factor. You literally never stop saying “WOW” as you explore the venue.
The Tulbagh mountains also create this majestic atmosphere.
Lastly, the fact that all the guests were able to stay at the venue was also definitely a selling point.

Tell us about something funny or unique about your wedding weekend
I promise you …the night before we didn’t laugh about this but when I think back now….It’s kind of funny because this type of thing literally only happens in movies…if even.
The night before the wedding , my wedding ring finally arrived from the jeweler after taking it in for resizing….Out of total excitement I just put the ring on and then….my finger started to swell and turn blue….After hours of lots of butter , ice water and hair oil I had to go to a jeweler to cut off my ring. 1 Diamond also fell out of the ring. There was just no way to salvage the situation. So I had to get married with my twin sisters’ ring. Our entire lives we had to share everything, so what is one more day of sharing a wedding ring right? Hahaha that’s my horror story.

How did you experience your photographers service?
THIS WASN’T A SERVICE…THIS WAS A FRIENDSHIP! From the 1st day we met Landi , we knew….This was a lady we would want to form a friendship with. Just her warm ,welcoming and funny personality made every moment so much more memorable.
Due to covid, she was stuck with us as clients for way longer than she initially anticipated …so she had no choice but to become a friend!
She was actually invited as a guest to the wedding. With and without the camera…WE HAD A BLAST! AND THE PHOTOS CAME OUT AMAZING!
Landi…WE LOVE YOU!

What advice will you give other couples still in the planning process?
Don’t overthink! Just do! And as soon as you tick a box, look forward. Don’t revisit your decisions.
Don’t get too stressed and go out of your way to make sure everything goes according to plan! Nothing is the way you play it off in your head and guess what….IT’S EVEN MORE AMAZING!
Take everything in and just enjoy it!

Where did you go on honeymoon and what made it special?
My amazing husband planned(and paid) this very idyllic honeymoon to Andeman and Nicobar islands but due to covid we were unable to fly to India. We did however manage to postpone all the booking, so we will keep this as a second honeymoon.
My husband surprised me with a local honeymoon at the Cederkloof Botanical retreat close to Citrusdal.
This was more magical than I ever thought a local honeymoon could be.
The peace and quiet of a secure cottage in the mountains was just what we needed after this rollercoaster of planning a wedding & we spent absolute quality time together. BONUS….THERE WAS NO SIGNAL AT ALL!
At the end we were actually grateful that we weren’t able to go on our overseas honeymoon. We were able to actually rest opposed to spending hours at airports.

Dornier Wine Estate Wedding – Jon & Shireen

By WeddingNo Comments

Dornier Wine Estate Wedding.

Tell us about how you met and the attributes that drew you to each other.

We met at medical school 10 years ago and became good friends. It’s fair to say we had a soft spot for each other right from the beginning!  Over the first couple of years of friendship we became very close sharing our love of adventure, travelling and good food until we both realised we were much more than friends. Jon proposed on a beautiful day at our favourite place near Cape Point.

Why did you choose your venue?

We literally drove around the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek area going into every vineyard and asking about weddings. Dornier was actually the first one we saw and we loved it immediately, nowhere else could beat the scenery with its beautiful mountains, vineyards, gardens and homestead. We had lunch there and the food was amazing.

What was the most memorable moment of the day?

Jon – its corny but for me it was Shireen walking down the aisle, I really didn’t expect to cry but I had tears in my eyes even before Shireen made it down the steps! The first dance was also comes to mind, it was unique….

Shireen – There were so many magical moments, it’s hard to decide. It was very special walking down the aisle with my Mum and seeing in that moment just how much I meant to Jon. The weather was beautiful, the jazz band were amazing and the food was delicious. It was extra special having time to spend with Jon for our couples shoot, it was so fun!

Any advice to other couples still in the planning process? What was the most difficult and what really helped?

Try to enjoy the process!  It will be the most perfect day you can imagine even if some of the tiny details (which will seem like huge details when you’re planning) don’t go like clockwork. You’re marrying the person you love with all your special people around you.

A friend told us to make sure that we are always ‘in the moment’ during the day. Enjoy talking to the person you are with rather than thinking about who you haven’t yet greeted! Take everything in because it goes so fast.

Describe your wedding day in ONE sentence.

The most incredible day, more than we could have ever hoped for!

Pepper Tree Wedding – Stefan & Ade

By WeddingNo Comments

Pepper Tree Wedding.

Van #Ampestrampe tot #Stramptelik.

Tell us about how you met and the attributes that drew you to each other.

Our story started in a restaurant, but not your typical restaurant. Well, actually, yes, your typical restaurant. We met in Spur. But that was it.

A few months passed and we started to attend the same social events. Our story truly started at a friend’s birthday, which was coincidentally at a restaurant, but this time, an upgrade from the Spur sparkles. I guess other sparks flew that night.

Our first coffee date was in October 2018. This Coffee date lasted 10 hours, a few refills and since then our conversations became bottomless.

How did the proposal go down?

We went to Clarens with Stefan’s family for the weekend to celebrate his 25th birthday. We were at Drakenberg View when Stefan TRIED to go down on one knee. Ademarie did not give him time to ask, she just yelled “yes” a few hundred times and threw her champagne GLASS in the air. We both enjoyed the moment, even without a glass of celebratory bubbles

What was the most memorable moment of the day?

Stefan: Ademarie surprised me with a voice-over recording just before she walked towards me. And then finally seeing her.

Ademarie: I knew walking down the aisle would be special. These few seconds held a lifetime worth of memories. The memories that were already written and the exciting ones to come. Right before my father and I anticipated the walk down the aisle, my father handed over his supporting crutch. He wanted to WALK me down the aisle. Another favourite moment was when we had to take a quick break halfway towards Stefan – my father’s eyes were filled with tears – a moment I cannot begin to explain. And then finally joining hands with Stefan in the front. My father officiated the wedding and blessed us with a beautiful message.

Any advice to other couples still in the planning process? What was the most difficult and what really helped?

Don’t forget to go on coffee dates, but once you go on them, please do forget to speak about the actual wedding planning. It can sometimes completely consume your time together. Once the day arrives, take in every moment. Go outside to catch a glimpse of the moon with your groom (a friend called us outside for this one).
