Rhodes Wedding – Peet & Patricia

By WeddingNo Comments

Rhodes Wedding.

When you travel past Barkley-East on a gravel road of about 120km, you get to a quaint little town called Rhodes.  Definitely a tourist spot to add to your bucket list.  But, when you keep driving through Rhodes that same gravel road will take you over one of the highest passes in South Africa.  From there you will witness the most breathtaking views you can imagine.  And right at the bottom of the Naude’s nek pass, I found myself on a beautiful farm about to shoot a wedding.  Read their story below:

Tell us the story of how you two met?

We met each other when I came to visit his sister who was a school friend of mine, but Peet was very shy so we didn’t really talk much.  We eventually reconnected and started talking to each other during my first year of University and as they say – the rest is history.

How did you decide on your venue:

The farm is an extremely special place for both of us.  To us, there is no place more beautiful on earth and we really wanted to share our love for this unique spot with all our friends and family so they could also share in our fondness of it. It’s the only place we ever want to be.

Were there any funny moments that took place?

On the wedding day, we had quite a bit of rain which created some muddy and slippery driving conditions on the farm roads.  Since we were getting married in a forest, the road up to the ceremony area was also quite slippery.  When the bridesmaids arrived, their vehicle completely slipped and got stuck.  It took an army of men to literally push and pick up the girls Fortuner and turn it the right way around again.  What an adventure!

If you could change anything on the day, what would it be?

We wouldn’t change a thing.  Everything turned out perfectly.  In the morning when it started raining, we just kept praying for it to clear up before the ceremony, and what a beautiful miracle when the rain stopped long enough for us to have our beautiful forest ceremony.

What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?

It’s really important to try and enjoy every moment of the process.  Try not to stress about everything.  Remember you have friends and family who can help so don’t be afraid to delegate some of the smaller tasks to them to help you.  Don’t take everything on yourself.  And again – just enjoy the entire process.
