Tuscan Rose Wedding – Hannes & Cecilia

By Uncategorized, WeddingNo Comments

 Tuscan Rose Wedding.

We started the Spring Season of weddings at the beautiful Tuscan Rose Wedding venue in Bloemfontein.  With beautiful gardens and beautiful Tuscan architecture, it definitely did not disappoint.

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

Our love story started way back in 2012 when we were just kids attending the same secondary school. We were both very sporty and competitive which created the initial attraction. And the rest is history.

Was your wedding affected by Covid-19 and how?

Yes, we were limited to 50 guests and the curfew were at 10pm which resulted in a shorter wedding. The wedding day in itself is expected to go by very soon but with the curfew it went by even sooner.

What made you choose your venue?

We chose our venue 100% because of the people from the venue. Veronica and Niel are the ones in charge of all the arrangements and from the first visit we felt so welcome and cared for. They went above and beyond to deliver in every aspect, and we could not be more satisfied. And their food is amazing.

Who did your hair and make-up and how did you find them?

My hair was done by Petrie Claasens and my make up by Karle Potgieter – and I had the best in the business. I literally loved every single detail not just on the day but also during the trials and the journey leading up to the wedding.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

We prepared our own vows and that by far was the most precious moment of the day for both of us.

Tell us something funny about your wedding weekend.

We had a garden wedding with rose bushes surrounding the area and also right next to the aisle where I was walking down to meet up with my then fiancé. I had a long vail and while walking up to the altar my vail hooked to one of the thrones on one of the bushes causing my dad and myself to come to a complete stop. This was funny but also perfect because it definitely broke the silence.

If you could change anything from the day, what would it be?

The only thing I would change is the curfew. I just wish we could have had more time to enjoy the day with our guests.

How did you experience you photographer’s service?

We could not be more satisfied. Landi is friendly and a pleasant person to be around. She creates an comfortable atmosphere especially for people like us who are quite uncomfortable Infront of the camera. She has great ideas and always deliver the best product. Definitely going to make use of het services again in future.

Riaan & Mardené

– A Thirsty Chapter.

It’s dry.  When the sun is not scorching the earth and licking up the last bit of moisture with its flaming tongues of thirst, it is the wind that evaporates any traces of water in to thin air.
This is what the Western Cape is currently facing.  With none of the regular lush green landscapes we are used to, we are now learning to find the beauty in what we once saw as devastation.
The dry, sandy banks of dried up reservoirs have become art.  We see the bittersweet beauty of white dust reflecting the pink sky.  A world transformed.  A reminder that love will conquer our deepest fears.  Love can florish where we plant it – we just need to believe.  Here follows a story:

ORGANICTALES   WHERE IT BEGAN

“There are a thousand ways
to kneel and kiss the ground;
there are a thousand ways
to go home again.”
~ Rumi

I remember like it was yesterday.  Waking up before dawn; the farm, nestled in a valley still asleep.  I would sneak out with a slice of bread and a bridle to fetch my pony, Ginger.
In the cold morning air we would be off on a brisk trot down the valley and finally up the hill where the sun was waving its good morning rays to the waking farm.

I grew up a creative. A love for visual beauty and harmonious sounds always filled my world with joy.  When I wasn’t out exploring the farm or adventuring with my farmer of a father, I would draw my adventures and compose songs thereof while my mind never took a rest from creating images of beauty in my mind.
My mother, a teacher of life, strongly encouraged my artistic nature.  Patiently enduring false violin strokes and monotonous piano scales.  She taught me to appreciate and love Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart.  She always made sure the art cupboard was fully stocked with different paints, pencils and art supplies, for this child of her who had no end when it came to the creative world.

My love for my ponies and my love for drawing finally intertwined and I spent hours upon  hours creating pencil sketches of magnificent equine creatures featured in magazines.  But, as a headstrong individual I soon grew tired of drawing other people’s photographs of other people’s horses. I wanted to create original sketches of ordinary ponies never before featured in glossy magazines. I wanted my own pony to be my muse.
I excitedly took the family point-an-shoot film camera and started snapping away at my ponies;  Convinced that I was creating the same magnificent work that I’ve seen in the magazines.  I remember my mom being upset when she discovered I snapped up an entire roll of film and when it came time to develop it, she made me pay for every single photo that was part of my “art.”  School fees, some would say.  Can you imagine how utterly disappointed I was when I saw my “art”?  I couldn’t draw from those photographs!!  So I took up another roll of film and so it continued in to the digital era.
I soon discovered that I haven’t drawn a single sketch in months, but instead I was determined and excited about creating art with a lens instead – my love for photography was born and blossoming quickly.
As life had it,  one of my arab mares were up for sale and with the money I bought my first entry level professional DSLR camera and enrolled in a photography course.  My world exploded as I started to learn more and more about this fantastic new way of creating art.  I learned to grab a moment of life and forever keep it perfectly unique as it was at that moment.  I started looking at the world in different angles, noticing shadows and light and colours.

My world transformed from an adventurous farm girl with a love for drawing and riding ponies, in to a creative adventurer who now sees life as a place with endless possibilities.

Below are some of my first DSLR images from when my love for photography was still young and fresh.  These images have never been published and this will be the first time that many of them are made public.

A few months back, a friend of mine traveled up to the Free State with me where my old pony, Ginger is living out his last days in peace and harmony.  A good old 24 years of age, he is being kept company by the very last foal born on the farm, Farah Anisa, a 7 year old Arab with a heart of gold and affection.  I will forever be grateful for these images I have with my two equine companions. The bond I share with them cannot truly be captured in images alone, but here is a mere glimpse thereof:

Karoo Stories

By WeddingNo Comments

The Karoo.  A place with real people, Genuine stories and vast dry landscapes.  It is the canvas that Stanley and Elaine chose for their wedding vows.

As I pulled in to Rooiberg Lodge after a 4.5 hour drive from Cape Town, I could smell the rain hanging over the landscape in thick dark clouds.  There were still a good 24 hours before the ceremony would take place and some rain would be very welcome in this dry, yet rich desert plain.

Stanley and Elaine’s story started 9 years ago.  Both small town kids with a natural love for the big outdoors.  They definitely chose a fantastic venue to express this part of their relationship with friends and family traveling wide and far to attend this one-of-a-kind celebration.

It was most certainly one for the books!

A Fair Wedding

By WeddingNo Comments

Words simply cannot explain.  Goosebumps still let my arm hair raise when I think about the strong sense of love that was so overwhelmingly present on this day.  The ceremony was one of a kind.  Rye-lee looked stunning and beyond and their spontaneous laughter, tears and praise filled the canopy of trees under which they promised themselves to each other.

I want to write a whole book on this beautiful day, but I’ll let the pictures do the talking instead.

Another one of my favourite sessions.
Jacques and Ilze came down to the beautiful Cape to celebrate the festive season with friends, family and also to have their engagement session.
We started the day by first enjoying a lovely glass of wine together at Rust & Vrede farm in Stellenbosch Valley.  I must admit that I might have gotten us slightly lost on the way there, but it sure did provide us with good fun and laughs when we finally  arrived.
We then made our way over to the most beautiful secret forest, nestled on another wine estate.  Such a gem of scenery!  After a good dose of forests and vineyards we headed down to the beach for a few last minute captures with the peachy blush clouds that painted the sky so beautifully

So here they are, and aren’t they lovely?  Two beautifully young souls so in sync with each other.  Photographing them was such a joy and they made it so easy.  I cannot wait to travel up to Bloemfontein to capture their most beautiful wedding later this year at Warm Karoo and working together with the very talented videographer from Raising Flags .

Shadow Pup – Portrait Session

By PhotographyNo Comments

“That’s the lesson of the dogs, that it’s important to both live in the moment and then go on to the next wonderful thing.”
-W.Bruce Cameron, The  Dogs of Christmas.

I had such a lovely time visiting Roxy Hutton of CityGirl Searching down in the small town of Buan.  Roxy is a fellow South African Creative who also resides in South Korea with her husband Dale Hutton and their adorably cute rescue pup, Shadow.
Roxy and I connected via social media and started collaborating on creative ideas and concepts, exchanging tips and tricks  We eventually decided to meet up for a shoot and afterwards we sat down over lots of cups of tea, while playing around in our editing software, sharing knowledge and insight and more cups of tea.

It’s always such a wonderful thing when creatives get together and decide to share their knowledge.  It is so refreshing and inspiring.

Kisses under Persimmon Trees

By CouplesNo Comments

Tyson and Staci are from  Colorado and the Great state of Texas.  Both adventurous souls who love to travel and explore and engage in all sorts of exhilarating activities.  Both living and working in South Korea, it makes their travelwonder so much easier with all the great beaches of South East Asia so easily accessible. It was on one of these fun filled vacations to Thailand when Tyson decided to pop the question.  And she said… “duh!”.

For the engagement photos we headed over to the Asan Folk Village for a picnic set up with some traditional Makeoli brewed by the couple themselves.
Autumn really is the most beautiful time of the year in Korea.  So many red and orange trees colouring the grey city scapes.  The Korean Ginkgo tree being the prettiest with its bright yellow leaves.

The magic between these two people is so obvious that anyone can sense it from a mile away. I’m so honored to have captured their love.

A Korean Village Love Affair

By Couples, WeddingNo Comments

A Korean Village Love Affair.
Nathan & Miran got married on a humid June afternoon and we met at Namsangol Hanok village just outside Chungmuru subway station in Seoul. We started off with the traditional Hanbok styled shoot.  Hanbok wear is made from silk and a lot of detail goes in to these dresses.  Because they are made from silk they are extremely hot.  I commend Miran for keeping up in the extremely humid weather we experienced that day.
After the hanbok session I had a few minutes break while they changed in to something a little more comfortable and less formal.
