Tuscan Rose Wedding – Hannes & Cecilia

By Uncategorized, WeddingNo Comments

 Tuscan Rose Wedding.

We started the Spring Season of weddings at the beautiful Tuscan Rose Wedding venue in Bloemfontein.  With beautiful gardens and beautiful Tuscan architecture, it definitely did not disappoint.

How did you meet and what drew you to each other?

Our love story started way back in 2012 when we were just kids attending the same secondary school. We were both very sporty and competitive which created the initial attraction. And the rest is history.

Was your wedding affected by Covid-19 and how?

Yes, we were limited to 50 guests and the curfew were at 10pm which resulted in a shorter wedding. The wedding day in itself is expected to go by very soon but with the curfew it went by even sooner.

What made you choose your venue?

We chose our venue 100% because of the people from the venue. Veronica and Niel are the ones in charge of all the arrangements and from the first visit we felt so welcome and cared for. They went above and beyond to deliver in every aspect, and we could not be more satisfied. And their food is amazing.

Who did your hair and make-up and how did you find them?

My hair was done by Petrie Claasens and my make up by Karle Potgieter – and I had the best in the business. I literally loved every single detail not just on the day but also during the trials and the journey leading up to the wedding.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

We prepared our own vows and that by far was the most precious moment of the day for both of us.

Tell us something funny about your wedding weekend.

We had a garden wedding with rose bushes surrounding the area and also right next to the aisle where I was walking down to meet up with my then fiancé. I had a long vail and while walking up to the altar my vail hooked to one of the thrones on one of the bushes causing my dad and myself to come to a complete stop. This was funny but also perfect because it definitely broke the silence.

If you could change anything from the day, what would it be?

The only thing I would change is the curfew. I just wish we could have had more time to enjoy the day with our guests.

How did you experience you photographer’s service?

We could not be more satisfied. Landi is friendly and a pleasant person to be around. She creates an comfortable atmosphere especially for people like us who are quite uncomfortable Infront of the camera. She has great ideas and always deliver the best product. Definitely going to make use of het services again in future.

Roodezand Wedding – Max & Kate

By Uncategorized, WeddingNo Comments

Roodezand Wedding.

Why did you choose your venue?

Finding a venue was the first thing we did when we started the planning process, because once we had a venue we could secure the date.

We came up with a list of what we wanted from a venue – size, layout, chapel, view, distance from Cape Town. Our first venue viewing was quite a laugh though, because Max forgot his contact lenses at home – so his impression of the venue was very different to mine!

After viewing lots of venues, every weekend, we were referred to Roodezand Wedding Venue in Tulbagh by a friend of a friend. We emailed Karen to ask for their pricing before we set up a viewing, and we really appreciated her upfrontness, her ‘no hidden cost’ claims, and her transparency. We were tired of hearing about venue hire fees, and then finding out later about the long list of additional charges. Karen was clear from the beginning about what was included and excluded, and how much we would have to pay. When we went to go view Roodezand, she also sold us with her wonderful knowledge of wedding planning, and her helpfulness. The venue was stunning, and we loved the mountains surrounding it. We also loved that Karen took so much pride in the service she offered, going as far as providing complimentary cordials for the table as to not have bright coloured cooldrink clashing with the decor. We loved how she treated and spoke about her staff, and how accommodating everyone was.

What was the most memorable moment of the day?

Kate – I would love to say walking down the aisle, but to be honest, that’s a bit of a blur for me. I loved walking through the confetti passage and seeing all our friends. But most of all, I just loved having everyone there. I loved that wherever I went during the day there was someone that I was excited to see. It’s amazing being surrounded by all your favourite people.

Max – Ah there are so many! If I had to choose it was when I got to shake my now father in law’s hand and then took Kate’s hand. There was lots of secrecy about her dress and I had no idea what it looked like, it was the most epic moment when I eventually got to see it; and start the adventure that is marriage in front of God and everyone that’s important to us.

How did you experience your Photographer’s service and where did the importance of photography fall in your day?

Choosing the right photographer for our day was a top priority for us, because we knew that the photos of the day would be something that we would cherish forever. Landi Groenewald was great from the very beginning, and her years of wedding experience were very helpful. She shared some wedding timelines with that gave us a very good starting point for planning the flow of our day. She was also full of really great ideas about how to arrange your wedding timeline in a different way to make the best of your time with your guests, and utilize the best light for photos.

We wanted to do an engagement shoot so that we could get comfortable with getting our photo taken as a couple (I think most people don’t get their photo taken very often unless they’re models?) and Organictales was super accommodating. She gave us some great ideas for spots to do the shoot, and went out of her way to make our crazy (and somewhat last minute) ideas work. Our engagement shoot was so much fun with Landi, and we knew we were in good hands for the wedding.

On the wedding day Landi was relaxed (which made us relax) and was able to give us guidance on what we needed to do to get the best photos without us having to do weird stuff. We also really appreciated how organised and structured she was. She managed and guided our wedding party and family well, and really helped the day flow. She is also just such a lovely, likeable person that everyone enjoyed working with her.

If  there was anything about the day you wish you could change what would it be?

There’s not a single thing we’d change. Even the unexpected rain and clouds played their part in making our wedding day special – by giving our guests relief from the heat, and providing us with a beautiful backdrop for photos

Any advice to other couples still in the planning process? What was the most difficult and what really helped?

  • Talk to your partner about your expectations for the day. Both people have thought about their wedding and what they want it to be like, not just the brides!
  • Decide what you want your wedding to look and feel like, and then take it from there.
  • Coming up with our top 4 priorities really helped us stay focused. It’s really easy to get swept up in all the wedding craze. You decide in the beginning that you want your day to be simple, the next minute you’re requesting quotes for chewing gum papers printed with your monogram!
  • Share the admin. Keep everything in a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox so it’s accessible from wherever you are and on all devices (I remember we almost did our table layout on a piece of A3 paper – imagine we lost it! Very glad we just did it on a google sheet).
  • Be fussy about your service providers. Find people whose work you love, and then give them the freedom to make your day beautiful. Let them be the experts, no matter how informed you think you are, you’re doing this for the first time, and they’re doing it for the 100th.
  • Be nice; to your guests that keep changing their minds about their RSVP, to your service providers, to your partner, to your bridal party. This is meant to be a time of celebration, not of trauma.

Describe your wedding day in ONE sentence.

The most perfect start to our adventure!

Swiping right on Tinder resulted in Winning a Free Wedding!

By Uncategorized, Wedding4 Comments

Jonkershuis Groot Constantia Wedding

~A Tinder Tale.

Nicola and Tiaan jumped in to my heart with a bang!  Every year I choose one couple and do their wedding photography at no cost.  Every year I meet the most amazing, beautiful individuals through this process and they always turn in to life long friends.  This year was no different and our initial meeting turned in to a two hour spree of laughter and milkshake.  I knew I chose the correct couple this year and the process was so rewarding.  But wait – Nicola and Tiaan did not only get their photography for free, they also won their videographer!  Talk about the stars aligning and the universe putting everything together for two beautiful individuals to be together.
Read their story here:

Swipe Right, and let the Tinder sparks fly!

Tiaan:  We met on Tinder and from the first moment I saw Nicola I knew she was the one for me.

Nicola: What drew me to Tiaan on his Tinder profile was his eyes. I knew I just had to meet him! I still have that profile picture he used – it’s a firm favourite of mine. We spoke for hours on the phone before we met, and it was definitely love at first sight when we did eventually meet, two months later.  He arrived to pick me up on our first date with the biggest bunch of roses I’ve ever seen! Now every month on the 8th I get a bunch of flowers ( 3 years running).

A Paternoster Proposal.

He had taken me away to Paternoster for the weekend – it was our 2 year anniversary.  I was hoping he would pop the question, but he gave no hint that it was going to happen.  The day of our anniversary we went for breakfast, then did a bit of sight-seeing, had lunch, went shopping, then went back to the cottage to start up the fire.  I was in the kitchen prepping to make potato bake when he walked into the kitchen and took my hands. To be honest I can’t remember what he said because once he dropped down on one knee I went speechless! When he asked me to marry him, I jumped into his arms and said yes!

A personal wedding with our own personal style.

We wanted to make our day very personal, so I did all the decor and flowers on the day! I loved the colours navy blue and rose gold, so I started from there.  Collected jars and candles for over a year.  We made our own save the dates, invites, stationery etc.

I wanted a bit of a vintage/rustic style vibe, and we definitely pulled it off. At first Pinterest was my go-to, but then we started coming up with our own ideas! I’m so glad we did, because it really was so much fun planning the wedding. All the detail that went into it was so special to us.  Tiaan and I sat for days and days punching out our heart confetti from vintage love novels, poetry books and church hymns. I adored the table names we used for our guests… I got a thick branch from my sister’s garden and had slices cut out. Guests’ names were added to their own slice as their places names for the table.

Say “Yes” to the Dress!

I thought I had an idea in mind, but then it completely changed when I saw my dress. Myself, my sister and my mum were at Canal Walk one afternoon, doing a spot of shopping when we saw that Bride and Co was having a winter sale! We thought we’d pop in and see what they had (not intending to buy anything!!) We all then decided to have a bit of fun and I tried on a few dresses.  Then there it was, my dream dress… exactly what I wanted. Soft, flowing, elegant, just perfect.  We walked out with the dress that day!

Wearing her Grandmother’s ring every day.

Tiaan: I designed Nicola’s engagement ring myself with some help from one of Nicola’s friends who was the jeweler who made it.  Nicola loves rose gold, so that had to be the main element.

Nicola:  My wedding band was extremely special, too.  It was my Nan’s ring.  I had asked my mum if she didn’t have a ring of my nan’s lying around that I could use as my wedding band instead of just buying one.  My mum and I were so excited to start looking through what she had.  We ended up finding one of her mum’s rings that was just perfect.  It’s such an honour to wear it everyday.

My engagement ring from Tiaan… WOW… I still can’t stop staring at it! It’s absolutely beautiful – he knows me so well!

The Best Make-Up Artist in Cape Town.

Nicola: I had the BEST make-up and hair artist for the day, Candice Leigh Arnott.  Apart from being an award winning artist, she’s a family friend and all round amazing woman.  I had a vision of what I wanted for my hair and make-up, and she nailed it first time round.  I felt amazing, and looked amazing thanks to Candice.

Jonkershuis Venue to fit the Jonker Name.

Tiaan:  We had a look at numerous venues, with Jonkershuis being one of them.  We told ourselves that this venue is way out of our league. But still, Nicola went to go and have a look and chat to the manager due to the fact that the Jonkershuis had my Surname in it, we sealed the deal and knew we had to have a Jonkershuis Groot Constantia Wedding!

Nicola:  The location was breathtaking! My dream was to have a winter wedding and Jonkershuis in the winter is gorgeous.  What sold me was the reception area and courtyard.  Fairy lights, lanterns, wooden tables and chairs – exactly the look we were going for.

Arriving at the chapel in style.

A huge thank you to Maynard from The Kombi Company for being absolutely amazing and getting me to the chapel on time! The ride there was one to remember – 80’s hits all the way! And then for driving us all to the venue after the ceremony – such  a legend.

The best wedding moments to remember.

Tiaan’s best memory of the day was by far that moment he saw Nicola walk down the aisle.  And oh! What a moment it was!

Nicola has quite a few favourite moments!
She remembers arriving at the church, and for the first time that day feeling nervous and excited at the same time – she just couldn’t wait to be his wife! Another favourite moment for Nicola was the VW Hippie Vat that Tiaan rented for her to arrive in! That was an absolute dream to have on the day!  And of course – Saying their vows to one another.

Our favourite Pastor and friend officiated us!

It was such an honour to have our Pastor from our church marry us.  Tiaan and I strongly believe that God sent us to one another, and it’s such a blessing to have a man in my life with the same outlook on faith as I do.  Our Pastor is a fantastic guy and we wouldn’t have asked anyone else.

Sister Clair to the rescue and planning!

My sister Clair helped me plan this wedding from start to finish.  She was fantastic! She took on the role as sister, friend, Maid of Honour, MC and the go-to for any queries on the night from the venue.  An absolute blessing to us both.

A Photographer full of love and laughs.

Landi’s service was FANTASTIC!! Firstly, we adored Landi from the minute we met her at Tigers Milk at our meeting.  We both felt so comfortable throughout the day with all the poses we needed to do.  It was brilliant.  Our couple shoot was so beautiful and Landi took us to so many stunning spots for the shots she needed.  When you have a photographer like Landi at your wedding, it just makes your day even better! Her vision, professionalism, loads of fun and loads of laughs made our day one to remember for sure.

A Videographer full of creative ideas and friendly smiles.

Our wonderful videographer was Jesse from Barefeet Videography.  Our experience with having Jesse there with us capturing all our memories on film was phenomenal!  Such a fantastic guy, so friendly, professional, easy going and loads of fun.

A menu you won’t easily forget.

Menu:

Starters:
Panned Panko Fishcake with house tartar, pickled cucumber salad OR Bobotie Roll with apricot chutney, coriander and cucumber salad.

Main:
Parmesan & Herb Crumbed Chicken Breast with sweet potato puree, lemon cream & greens OR Sliced Sirloin with potato puree, exotic mushroom sauce & green beans.

Dessert:
Vanilla Creme Brulee, rooibos & cardamon infused ORFarm Apple Cake with butterscotch sauce, cinnamon swirl ice cream.

Nicola & Tiaan’s Wedding Planning Advise!

Don’t start with the planning too late! I started not long after Tiaan asked me to marry him ( a year ahead) and I can honeslty say that that year helped me immensely.  I wasn’t stressed months, weeks, days before the big day, and everything was done and dusted well ahead of time.  I had so many ideas and they changed constantly, so always leave room for change!

Rose Barn – Jeffreys Bay Wedding

By Uncategorized, WeddingNo Comments

The Rose Barn – Jeffreys Bay Wedding.

A Windy Chapter

Growing up as a Freestate farm girl, I would always wonder about a shore-side lifestyle in Jeffreys Bay.  Little did I know that a love story would be the reason for me to drive hundreds of kilometers to visit this part of our country.

Since moving to Cape Town, wind has become a big part of my daily life and experience.  I am sure that all other shore-side dwellers will agree that strong stormy winds are regular visitors.  The day before Karla & Martin’s wedding, we all silently hoped for a windless celebration.  But as the day quietly woke, the leaves started to softly rustle in the trees – keeping up the rhythm with the guinea fowl song.  After breakfast it was clear that the wind had no intention of turning down its song, and why should it?! It was a day to celebrate love and even the wind wanted to sing its greatest love song!  And oh!  What a song it was!

I asked Karla & Martin to express their emotions from the day.  Scroll down and read their story:

Where it began – A Romantic Proposal:

My friend sent me a message asking if we wanted to go for sundowners in Bean se Bos (in Patensie) after work.  Obviously, we said yes! Five o’clock I was dressed and ready for Sundowners.  Martin called and said he is going to be a bit late as he is still working. I called my friend and wanted to ask her if I can join them while Martin can come when he’s done. She didn’t answer because she was on her way to Port Elizabeth to her boyfriend and Martin and Jeanie (who was my maid of honor) were lighting up Bean se Bos… literally. Eventually Martin picked me up and off we went. We walked through the woods and eventually we came to a little spot next to the river. I saw a fire, fairy lights EVERYWHERE, flowers, a carpet, champagne and two champagne glasses. Everything happened in slow motion. He was on his knees and I cried while saying YES!!

A Minimalistic Classic Atmosphere:

The style of our wedding was minimalistic… chic but classic.

I am not someone who likes “tierlantyntjies” so I always knew I wanted white and lots of candles and fairy lights. I ended up choosing white and the tones of gold/copper/rose gold with a touch of black. Pinterest was my inspiration! I don’t know how people did it before Pinterest LOL!

A Splendid Venue!

We got married at The Rose Barn, Jeffreys Bay. It was love at first sight!
We were at a friend’s wedding at The Rose Barn, when I saw the venue for the first time. I told Martin that if we get married one day I want to get married there. So that is what  we did! It was the number one venue for the both of us.

The Perfect Rings to Seal the Deal:

I looked on Pinterest for ring inspiration. I found five designs that I really liked, but couldn’t choose one.  Martin ended up choosing the one he liked best and sent it to Marnic Tait, who is a goldsmith and a very close friend. It was incredibly special to have a friend make my ring.
Martin’s ring is from Dear Rae. He tried a lot of rings but couldn’t find the one. A friend suggested that we look on Dear Rea’s website and there we found his gorgeous ring.

Bring the Make Up! Bring the Brushes!  Let’s make those lips luscious!

Samuel Beck and one of his stylist, Mia, did our hair. Samuel Beck has his own hair salon in Jeffreys Bay but is originally from England. What an amazing, kind and creative team!

Rose Bruins from St. Francis Bay (originally from Cape Town) did our makeup. She has years of experience and worked with some of the top magazines in South Africa. She is such a sweetheart! She did everything I asked for and surely has a special touch with makeup. I am extremely satisfied with all three of them and thankful that they made sure that we look beautiful.

Lace adorned with love – a Dress to die for!

I had so many ideas for my dress! I eventually decided to go for a few fittings, just to get a better idea of what looks good on me and what doesn’t.  I combined a dress and skirt that fit me like a glove. It was not what I thought would look good on me. I didn’t want to buy a dress, I wanted someone to make it. I was told to go to Carina le Roux (in Jeffreys Bay), because she is the best. And WOW!!! She truly is the best! I love my ‘classy and dreamy’ vibe dress.

The Start of Future Nostalgia:

The most memorable moment of the day was walking down the aisle with my dad and having him marry us.  I will cherish that forever and a day!  For Martin the most memorable moment of the day was seeing me walking down the aisle. Having a night photo session was also very special to the both of us. At the very end of the night we danced on top of the bar while our very dear friends sang “Time of my life”. We will never forget that!

A Down to Earth Photographer:

I love photos! It is such an important part of my life and on our wedding day it was no different. Our photographer is funny, loving, talented and very professional. We had a blast! We feel blessed to have had ORGANICTALES as our photographer. Landi, You captured the most important day of our lives.
Thank you, Annerie Myburgh for assisting on the day.

We wouldn’t change a thing!

At first I thought I wanted to change the weather, if I could. The wind was insane! But looking back now I wouldn’t change the weather because the photo’s are breathtaking. The wind kept it interesting. So, no I wouldn’t change the weather. If I could, though, I would probably make time stand still from time to time. The day went by too fast. I had so much fun and want to do it again! BEST.DAY.EVER!

Food Fit for Kings & Queens!

Aqua Food and Catering from St. Francis Bay oversaw the delicious food for the night and made sure that we ate like kings.

The Harvest Table:
After the ceremony, the guests were treated with flutes of sparkling wine with berries and a harvest table – from stacked cheeses with fruit, a variety of stuffed olives, freshly baked breads, relishes, pesto etc. to a tray service with tempura fish, calamari and fresh onion soup with toasted cheese sandwiches.

The Main:
The main course was plated with tender slow cooked lamb served on rosemary mash potato and ratatouille.

Something for the sweet tooth:
The dessert table and wedding cake were made by Kiosk, situated in Patensie and owned by Jeanie du Preez. Kiosk believes in a balanced approach to life… the 80/20 approach. 80% of the food is wholesome, natural and good for the body. The other 20% is good for the soul! For our wedding, Kiosk wanted indulgence in abundance. The guest feasted on macarons (not macaroons), salted caramel popcorn bedazzled with gold and rose gold edible glitter, baked cheesecakes, brownies, cranberry blondies, and chocolate pretzel cookies. The wedding cake was significant! The top tier:  Almond, lemon and raspberry torte; bottom tier: good ol’red velvet cake. All slathered in Italian Meringue Buttercream. I know, right! The best of the best. And yes, we did have a bar.

Boogy on the dance floor!

Collin Nance was our DJ. He did everything, and more, that we asked for. He played a big variety of songs and read the crowd like a boss. The atmosphere was amazing. He knows how to celebrate… we couldn’t stop dancing… hence, we ended up on the bar with the last song.

Karla & Martin’s advice:

To couples who are still planning their wedding: Do not be afraid to ask people to help.  Hand out tasks, do not try to do everything yourself.  Take care of yourself and your fiancé.  Rest and when the day comes relax, breathe and take a good look at everything and everyone every now and again.

The most difficult part was the guest list and table seating. What helped? Keep it close to your heart… You do not have to invite everyone you know. People know that. And the table seating… again, keep it close to your heart.

Budgeting advice:

The budget it always a difficult question. What is your budget for your dress? What is your budget for food? I hated those questions because we didn’t have a fixed budget. We just knew what we could afford and what we couldn’t, and so will you. If it wasn’t affordable I simply had to let it go and you know what? It’s fine! I still had my perfect wedding regardless.

We are off to BALI!!!

Excited to the max! Martin and I couldn’t leave for honeymoon straight after the wedding due to work related reasons – so we still have that to look forward to.

The day in One Sentence:

We had the time of our lives and we owe it all to You! – “I have found the one whom my soul loves.” Song of Solomon 3:4
